New Scoot and a Wedding Dress

Wow, what a weekend!

Saturday morning Jim and I woke up early to go to his Cheetahs game at 8am.  The girls played a great game but ended up losing (other team was much better; three girls also played on a travel team.)  After picking up some breakfast, we headed towards our next destination... the scooter store!!!!

I'd done some online investigating and really liked the Genuine Scooters Buddy 50 model.  Okay, so I really just liked that it came in pink and had a cup holder.  And the pictures online showed a cute wicker basket with flowers on the front.  The dealership in DC carried the Buddy line, but didn't keep the 50cc's in stock.  (For those of you who aren't familiar with the scooter lingo, "cc" refers to the engine size.  In Virginia, if a scooter is 50cc's or less - aka doesn't go over 35 mph - then you don't need to register or insure the bike, or get a motorcycle license.  Zing!)  But the owner happily gave us plenty of information about scootin' and took down my name and number to pass along to anyone selling a 50cc.

Later that day I got an email from a guy who'd just picked up his 2006 Honda Metropolitan and heard I was interested in a 50cc.  He was selling his for $1,200 and would include two helmets (guy and girl), a heavy duty chain, battery jump starter and scooter cover.  The email didn't include pictures so obviously I googled and my oh my, was I pleasantly surprised!  ITS ADORABLE!!!!

Immediately I responded and said I was interested in taking a look.  We spoke on the phone and he informed me that the scooter only has 125 miles on it!  He and his wife just didn't use it much and wanted to get rid of it.  I wanted to see it that night but he had plans to go to the DC United game!  I told him I did too, and we agreed to meet up the next morning.

The game was lots of fun, as usual.  It ended in a draw, but Charlie Davies scored a sweet goal in the 89th minute!  On the way out of the parking lot, Jim was rear-ended by a drunk driver.  We called the cops three different times and they never showed up.  Thanks DCPD!  Luckily the guy's girlfriend was there to handle talking to the insurance company and get things squared away, while he sat in the back of the truck scared that the police would eventually show up and haul his ass away to jail.

This morning Kendall and I went to pick up my scooter.  I could barely contain my excitement.  To be honest, I was too nervous to take it for a spin around the block.  We packed her up in the back of Kendall's Suburban and took her home.  "She" doesn't have a name yet.  I'm a firm believer that naming your vehicles helps keep them running smoothly and gives you a more personal relationship with them.

Jim came out and helped us unload the Scoot and I took a spin around the parking lot.  A few trips around and I became much more confident!  Approaching a nice Indian neighbor I couldn't help myself - I smiled and waved frantically at him.  First he looked at me like I was crazy, then he started smiling and waving back.  I gave him the thumbs up, pointed at the scooter and said, "First day!"  He thumbs-upped back and laughed.  I felt great!!!

I couldn't spend too long cruising around because Jes was coming over to pick me up so we could go to the Washington Bridal Show!!!  We scooped Cari along the way and made our way over to the Dulles Expo Center.

My objectives for the day were:

- Try on wedding dresses
- Taste cakes
- Get information on venues
- Find floral and invitation ideas

The girls and I started up and down the aisles getting cake samples and free stuff.  Annnnd playing in the photo booths.

We'd accomplished almost all of my goals except trying on wedding dresses, so we headed over to one of the boutiques to check out the selection.  There was one I really liked that was simple and pretty, and fifty bucks to boot!  I tried it on and it fit pretty well, with just a little bit in the back that would need to be taken in.  Cari and Jes suggested I just buy it, that if I didn't I could end up regretting it later.  So I bought it!  I definitely still want to do the wedding dress shopping experience, but its nice to know I have a dress that I like just in case I can't find anything else.

For those of you who have gone through the wedding dress buying process, please share your stories!  How many dresses did you try on?  Where did you go?  What was your favorite part?  Feel free to post in the comments section for others to read.

All in all, this weekend was a major success!  I have a feeling this week is going to amazing.  Starting with meeting up with Vanessa tomorrow afternoon to talk about wedding planning!
