Not anymore.
This is my blog. I will write what I want. If you don't like it - don't read it. If you need to leave nasty messages on it, well fine. But I want to ask - who are you?
And to everyone else - who are you? Perhaps a better question - how do you define yourself? What type of person do you want to be? How do you project yourself to others?
Each day I feel more comfortable in my skin. I discover something about myself that I didn't know the day before. Sometimes its something I love, sometimes its something I want to change, sometimes its something I can't change but need to accept as a part of myself. I'm proud of who I am.
How would I describe myself to a stranger? Does my job define me? Well, no. But its certainly a part of me. Does my family define me? No - but they certainly have/had an impact on who I am now. Do my hobbies define me? My friends? My scooter? Everything in my life impacts who I am.
Speaking of how you project yourself - Facebook is undergoing more changes.
Timeline. Why is this necessary? People who knew me in high school know what I was like, they don't need a reminder. I don't care what my friends and coworkers were like 5 years ago - I care about them now. So you were super hot in college and popular - neat, who are you now? So you were a nerd in high school - neat, who are you now? If someone is truly interested in seeing the past, its there to stalk away. Facebook doesn't need to shove it in your face. Lets embrace the present and let the past stay there.
Ticker. Seriously? I don't care if someone is listening to Foster the People. I'm sure 989709867 other people are too. I don't care if someone is now friends with someone. I don't care if someone is tagged in another picture. They are already tagged in 3498798. Two words: information overload.
Simplified Sharing. Now when you go to sites you can set it up to automatically update on your Facebook. So any article I read in the Washington Post will show up? Any show I watch on Netflix? Any song I listen to on Spotify? Why is this helpful?
I've been contemplating an exit from Facebook for awhile, as I'm sure so many others have as well. But unfortunately too many people I care about use Facebook as their main method of communication. So alas, I stay. For now.
